We built Compete With Me to be private by default. We collect only what's needed to run the service, we don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't show ads. That's the short version — read on for the full picture.
1. Who We Are
Compete With Me ("we," "us," or "our") operates the competewithme.io website and the Compete With Me mobile app (iOS, Android). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

2. Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign up using a supported provider (such as Google or Apple), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. We store your email and display name to identify you within the app. We do not receive or store your social account password.
Competition and tracking data. When you use the app, we store the competitions you create or join, the metrics you track, your submission values, and your progress over time. This is the core data that makes the app work.
Photo submissions. When you submit photo proof for a metric entry, that image is uploaded to and stored in a secure cloud storage service (Amazon S3) and delivered via a content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront). Photos are associated with your account and your competition submissions.
Usage and technical data. We may collect basic technical information such as your device type, operating system, app version, and general error logs to help us keep the app working correctly. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics services.
Communications. If you contact us by email, we'll keep your message and our reply so we can provide support.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Run competitions, calculate scores, award medals, and generate leaderboards
- Deliver photo submissions to competition members who are entitled to see them
- Send you notifications about competition events (face-off results, medal awards, governance votes) — only if you've enabled them
- Respond to your support requests
- Improve the reliability and performance of the service
We do not use your information to show you ads, build advertising profiles, or sell your data to data brokers or third parties.
4. How We Share Your Information
With other members of your competitions. Your display name, metric submissions, scores, and medals are shared with other members of competitions you have joined. Photos submitted as proof are visible to competition members. Your email address is never shared with other users.
With service providers. We use the following trusted third-party infrastructure providers to operate the service. They process data only on our behalf and under our instructions:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud infrastructure, database storage, file storage, authentication, and notifications. Data is stored in the United States.
- Sign-in providers (e.g. Google, Apple) — only to facilitate the OAuth sign-in flow you initiate. We do not share ongoing data with these providers beyond the initial authentication.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
5. Photo Storage and Privacy
Photos you upload as submission proof are stored securely and are accessible only to members of the specific competition to which they belong. Photos are not publicly accessible on the internet, are not indexed by search engines, and are not used for any purpose other than verifying your submission within that competition.
If you delete a submission, the associated photo is removed from storage within 30 days.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account and competition data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information and competition data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (for example, for fraud prevention).
Competition data from competitions you participated in may be retained in anonymised aggregate form after your account is deleted (for example, to preserve historical records for other participants).
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data.
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection or restriction: Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing of your data.

8. Children's Privacy
Compete With Me is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@competewithme.io and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure credential management through Amazon Cognito, access-controlled storage, and monitoring for unusual activity. No system is 100% secure, but we take the protection of your data seriously.
10. Third-Party Links
The app or website may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy applies only to Compete With Me. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
11. International Users
Compete With Me is operated from Canada and uses infrastructure hosted in the United States. If you are located outside the US or Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our service, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
